Before you start
Even before you serve your first pint, we want to make sure that you feel completely confident, knowledgeable and prepared. Especially if you are new to the pub business, there are a few things you’ll need to do before you start
Pre-Entry Awareness Training
The first thing you need to do is to complete BII Pre-Entry Awareness Training (PEAT). This training programme is accredited by the BIIAB, and it will help you identify the main issues that you should consider and investigate before you even take on a pub tenancy or lease. Getting a Personal Licence
BIIAB Level 2 Award for Personal Licence Holders (APLH) and BIIAB Level 2 Scottish Certificate for Personal Licence Holders (SCPLH)
The licencing Act 2003 (England and Wales) and the Licensing Act 2005 (Scotland) requires anyone wishing to sell or authorise the sale of alcohol to obtain a PERSONAL LICENCE.
A Designated Premises Supervisor (DPS) must have a personal licence.
Part of the process is that applicants must obtain a recognised qualification. In England and Wales this is the Award for Personal Licence Holders (APLH) and in Scotland, the Scottish Certificate for Personal Licence Holders (SCPLH). We offer these courses through our training providers regularly at venues across the country.
Training fees will usually include:
• Tuition from experienced tutors
• Comprehensive course handbook
• Examination fee
• An application service is also available
During the course you will be shown how to complete your application form, but if you prefer and want to save some time, providers also have an application service available and can also assist you in obtaining or amending a Premises Licence.

Professional pub training, tailored for you

Safety First Certification Food Safety / Health and Safety
These two qualifications are included in your agreement and your modules will be sent to you by email to complete when you book your set-up training.
It is important that you undertake some essential training in both Food Safety (level 2) and Health and Safety (level 2) before you open for business. These courses can be completed as simple E-Learning modules, and will ensure you are clear on the food hygiene regulations, and can recognise and prevent potential hazards to your customers, yourself and your team.
We ask all our new Publicans to attend our 5 day induction programme, even those with experience, as we want to welcome you to our ways of working that ensure you can keep in-touch with all the latest best practice and generally discover all the great ways we can help you to optimise your sales and be the best in your market place. This induction to Punch is designed to ensure you have all the information and support you need from the outset.
This is a great opportunity to meet the Punch team who will give you the support you need, tailored for you and your business. Our external industry experts will also be on hand to deliver two essential qualifications, the BIIAB Award in Licensed Hospitality Operations (ALHO) and the BIIAB Award in Beer and Cellar Quality (ABCQ).

Professional Onsite Cellar Training
You will receive a visit in your first two weeks from a cellar services expert to help you get the best out of your cellar and optimise your beer quality. This step by step practical training is tailored to your needs and will ensure you and your staff have the knowledge and ability to:-
